Hair Pleasure Series: How Does Your Natural Hair Fit Into Your Active Lifestyle?

I can’t wash my hair after each workout session. In fact, I tried and ended up with dry hair. You see, I try to work out 3-4 days a week and frequent washings strip my hair of moisture. Even a sizable volume of conditioner won’t revive the moisture.

So, here’s what works for my hair texture between wash days? To begin with, I use an applicator bottle filled with water and a moisturizing shampoo which I apply to my scalp before heading to the shower. But, I don’t rub the mix into my scalp instead I run the applicator tip along the length of my head. Second, I use a handheld showerhead with multiple water pressure settings to rinse out the mixture. The handheld gives me enough closeness to blast the shampoo mix out of my hair. Afterward, I use another applicator bottle filled with different oils and massage them into my roots and strands. In the past, I shied away from oils then I realized my hair holds moisture longer when I apply oil and a cream leave-in conditioner.

And that’s it. My routine for cleansing my hair and scalp after a workout. Although, this routine does not deep cleanse it does a decent job of removing the sweat from my hair and scalp. Likewise, this routine keeps the sweat from causing an itchy scalp, and that’s all I need it to do until my scheduled wash day.

What are your tried-and-true practices to keep your hair and scalp clean after a workout session?

  1. Grin and bear it and let your sweaty scalp air dry?
  2. Co-wash after exercising?
  3. Is shampooing after a workout mandatory?
